Pivot Mach 5.7 Carbon ?

Not Just Carbon, Pivot Carbon!
A new Era of Carbon bikes has arrived. We’ve taken everything we learned about carbon development from our road projects (BH) and applied them here. The result is nothing short of amazing.
Hollow box high compression internal molding technology allows us to optimize the critical internal dimensions unlike other carbon bikes. Greater compaction and smoother internal walls with greater constancy allows us to deliver a lighter, stronger, highly optimized frame design. 5 lb. frame weight with an incredible stiffness to weight ratio

142 X 12mm through axle design featuring a forged 7075-T6 derailleur hanger with integratedaxle nut.
160mm rear post mount.

Special 4 place under top tube cable guide with dropper seat post cable routing.

Special rubberized leather chainstay, inner seat stay, and down tube protectors for a quiet ride and higher impact resistance.

Direct Mount front derailleur design accommodates Shimano and SRAM systems. The direct mount design, easies set up, and provides a more rigid mount for the most efficient front shifting possible.

140mm or 150mm fork compatibility.
Tapered headtube

92mm wide bb shell, compatible with Shimano, SRAM/TruVativ GXP, FSA, and Enduro bottom brackets. 92mm shell allows for wider pivots and better bearing support for increased frame strength and stiffness while maintaining better control over the chain-line.

Suspension:

•dw-link suspension design with position sensitive anti-squat

•5.7” (145mm) rear travel

•Flatter spring curve to take greater advantage of the Boost Valve and allows for a smoother transition into the middle of the travel.
RP23 Kashima shock with custom tuned Rebound and Propedal settings:  New Rebound settings offers twice the number of adjustment options for more precise tuning of the rebound speed. Propedal 1 setting offers minimal platform while both Propedal 2 and 3 settings offer extremely efficient pedaling performance with quick blow off and good small to medium bump absorption.  Fully open offers a new level of plushness with the addition of Kashima coating while still maintaining the incredible pedaling performance Pivot frames are known for. The new settings add increased versatility and tuning range that improve overall performa

Geometry and Handling:

•The new Mach 5.7 Carbon Shares the same award winning geometry of the Mach 5.7 aluminum.  The 5.7 Carbon’s relaxed 67.1 degree head angle (with 150mm travel fork), and low bottom bracket height, make for great cornering and increased stability and increased rider confidence on the trail and on the race course.
•The dw-link’s position sensitive anti-squat allows us to achieve the stable handling and increased cornering benefits of the lower bottom bracket with more travel than other bikes in the category.  All with better pedaling efficiency, and a plusher feel.

Rely

The Rely shares the same memory padding, relief window and relief channel that makes the Relax such a great saddle yet uses a lighter weight shell and accommodates longer rides with its narrower body.

Versatile, Mid-Range Ergonomic Model, Full-Length Centerline Relief with Stepped Padding, Supple Nylon Shell for Maximum Comfort

for commuter, Touring, and hybrid

Urbane Relief

Transcending the principle of form following function, the Urbane Relief boasts big comfort on a sleek, performance oriented body. The Urbane’s stitchless technology prevents moisture from seeping into the pad set, ruining the shape of the saddle. The Relief Window, Centerline Channel, Dual Compound Base, and Gel Pad Sets (on Deluxe versions) make this saddle one of the most competitive comfort oriented performance saddles on the market.

CHUB Review

The CHUB HUB Review

I’ve always been a tech head and in searching for new upgrades to my ride nothing really struck as particularly innovative as the Chub Hub. So – after careful negotiation with the significant other on how this particular piece of technology would dramatically improve <our> relationship and increase my fitness level, yadda yadda … I was able to go purchase one – just in time for the Mt. Fuji Hill Climb.
The Chub Hub is BIG.  Everyone asks what’s in there and of course you HAVE to answer (ala Adam Sandler .. you can keep your w… in there!)  HAHA! Or just claim that its actually a ‘mechanical doping’ device. In any case – there is absolutely NOTHING in there – and thats the point. It is just a very large circumference HUB.
Why?  To quote the folks at Hive — “The answer is by increasing flange diameter, and dramatically increasing the torsional stiffness of the hub shell the result is a hub that more efficiently transfers pedal force from the drive side to the non”drive side, increasing wheel strength by reducing spoke stress..” If you want to learn more – just check out the Hive.
I had my LBS (where I bought the hub) lace it up to a Mavic Open and managed to get the completed wheel just in time for the Mt. Fuji Hillclimb.

Prior to the race, I rode from Takao up to Mt. Fuji , so I had a good chance to shake it down. The first thing I noticed was that I pulled to the top of the first hill we hit coming out of  Takao at higher gear (42/17) loaded with a backpack at higher than my ‘normal’ rate. On hard standing climbs at high torque – typical of the lower rpm stuff you encounter on a road fixie – the CHUB definitely felt more solid on the road. It’s like the pedal motion was resulting in pavement transfer rather than wheel slush. I loved it, and my personal mechanic gives it her approval.

The CHUB is definitely an attention grabber. The only issue or complaint I have with this wheel is that the builder chose 3x rather than 2x. The Chub puts lower spoke loading – so you can easily spoke 2x or even radial. And he didn’t put rim plugs in the wheel! besides that – its a perfect build and a fun addition to the ride.
